Bilt Hamber Auto-Clay bars remove embedded metallic dust, industrial fallout, brake dust, and road film to restore a glass-smooth finish to automotive paintwork. Unlike conventional clay bars that require specialized detangling lubricants, Auto-Clay is formulated to use plain tap water as a lubricant. Pre-treating paintwork with a iron remover (such as Korrosol) prior to claying extends bar life by removing bulk iron contamination first. Once surfaces are clayed, paint polishes and waxes apply smoothly and bond effectively.
Variant Selection Guide
- Regular: Firmest grade. Formulated for heavily contaminated, neglected paintwork, vehicles that have never been clayed, or for application in warm/hot summer temperatures.
- Medium: Intermediate grade. Ideal for paintwork in fair condition with moderate contamination. Softens quickly during kneads to easily expose fresh working faces.
- Soft: Softest grade. Recommended for paintwork in good condition, frequent detailing, soft clear coats, or application in cold weather environments.

Application Guidelines
- Preparation: Thoroughly wash the vehicle to remove loose dirt. Work out of direct sunlight on cool panels. Option: Pre-spray with Korrosol and rinse to clear heavy iron fallout.
- Lubrication: Generously atomise clean tap water over a 2–3 square foot working area using a spray bottle. Do not use clay dry.
- Application: Knead a portion of clay into a flat pad. Pass the clay back and forth across the wetted panel using light pressure. A distinct noise/resistance will indicate active particle removal; continue sliding until friction disappears and the movement is smooth.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Wipe away moisture with a clean microfibre or terrycloth towel. Check surface smoothness with fingertips. As the working face picks up residue (visible as a reddish-brown deposit), fold and reshape the bar inward to expose fresh clay.
- Safety Note: If the clay bar is dropped onto the ground at any point, discard it immediately to prevent scratching paintwork. Seal clean paint with polish or wax after treatment.
